Dancing with water

By | 2018-01-25T20:55:28+00:00 January 25th, 2018|Random musings|

25 January 2018 There was a dead seal on the beach today. A sad husk, dark and sombre against the light sand. It was almost as if the waters wanted to deliver to me a message of death and decay. In the midst of an unprecedented drought here in the Western Cape where I live, it is no surprise if that is indeed the message, I thought to myself. I saw a video the other day about an old Native American woman telling the story of how she'd talked to the water that started coming from the ground under her house, and how it listened to her request and flowed in ways so as not to flood her neighbours, or shed. I took off my shoes and as I grounded myself in the energy of the earth and stepped into the ankle-deep waters of the playful waves, I remembered her story and decided to try and connect to the water. And a curious dance quickly happened, a joyful barefoot tango between girl and ocean, an ebb and flow, give and take. I asked the water why it has chosen to stay away, why so little rain was falling. In answer, I [...]

The Power of Consistency

By | 2018-01-24T09:10:56+00:00 January 24th, 2018|Random musings|

This weekend, I gave a talk to a lovely group of Annique consultants who wanted to kick off their 2018 in high gear. I told them my story, how I came to write a book and how hard and rewarding that was. The journey of putting your head down and keeping on keeping on, despite all of your doubts and misgivings... We spoke about the power that lies in "Consistency", what it means and how to apply it to your life, and your business in order to achieve harmony, coherence and for it all to hold together well. Here is a video about the principle. So tell me, how can you start applying it to your own life, leveraging its power to get closer to your dreams? You can check it out on Youtube here. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The Akashic time travel workshop – what it is all about

By | 2018-01-04T10:08:01+00:00 January 4th, 2018|Random musings|

When is it being held? Firstly, it is a three-hour workshop being held in Somerset West, on January 16, from 14:00 to 17:00. You can book by emailing melanie@melaniebritz.com. Cost per person: R250.   What is a time-travel workshop exactly? The American physicist John Wheeler once said that time is what stops everything from happening at once. We experience time flowing in a pretty linear, ordered fashion, only in one direction, likened often like a river flowing past from one side to the other, only ever able to touch the part that is right here. We experience time like this because of how we evolved, and learned to survive as humans, and also because of the ordered nature of the Big bang the fact that there is a higher statistical likelihood of things going from ordered states into disordered states. It is all very confusing and complicated. But time actually does not exist on its own but forms part of a four-dimensional grid of space-time. And space-time looks more like a 4dimensional map than the river we often imagine it to be. And just like New York, Paris, Cape Town and Rome are all locations on a normal map, the big [...]

Meditation to end off 2017 cleanly and welcome the new energy of 2018

Welcome. Come to this space, and just centre yourself here. Wherever you are, become present in your body, in this moment in time. We are on the cusp of welcoming a new year, but this year more than ever it is important to let go of the year that was and to welcome the new energy cleanly. 2017 was a tough year. In a way, we're all suffering from a bit of PTSD. We witnessed scary, upsetting, disjointing, chaotic things. The pace was fast and disturbing and there were lightning bolt shocks to the system. We've all been beat up by the year that was. In truth, it was a bit like an ongoing mugging. There was a lot of fear, uncertainty and dismay about the chaos that is happening in the world. So take a deep breath with me, and feel where that feeling of 2017 is centred in your body. For me it is a black tightness in my solar plexus, that almost feels like your breath being caught in your throat. A gasp of shock, a frisson of electricity and dismay. It is hurt and pain and disappointment. Send love and kindness to that place. Breathe light into it. Keep breathing [...]

Chaos theory

By | 2017-09-25T11:16:44+00:00 June 23rd, 2017|Random musings|

There is a mathematical theory which states, in its simplest form, that small events can lead to many unforeseen big events, and because of that compounded effect of a very small initial change or event, you cannot predict anything when you are dealing with complex systems. It is known as the Chaos theory, or also in popular culture as the Butterfly effect which says that a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil can impact weather patterns which can later lead to a tornado in Texas. It applies to things like weather systems, the stock exchange and even how our minds work. One of the most vivid memories I have of this in action was one day when I was still in school. My dad and I were watching South Africa play test cricket against India in our small TV room on the farm. Let me set the scene for you. Behind us was a window. In front of this stood a bookshelf which was filled, instead of books, with bonsais and other potted plants. The sun was shining warmly through this window… In front of this was the couch we were seated on, with the TV in front of us. Because [...]

A dinosaur named Beef Wellington

By | 2017-09-25T11:19:51+00:00 December 20th, 2016|Random musings|

I had a weird dream this morning. Mind you, now that I’m paying attention and writing them down immediately upon waking I have realised that I have weird dreams most mornings, but this one was especially weird and somewhat funny. I was in a parking garage being chased by a little, neon-green, poisonous, Dinosaur; and this creature was named Beef Wellington, I kid you not. The Dinosaur bore some striking resemblance to those Venus fly trap plants, especially around the mouth area, but it was a cartoon. In my dream, I successfully evaded the scary little cartoon from pre-history and got in my car. Then, driving down the road I got pulled over by some cops who told me that the headlights on my vehicle need replacing. “No fine, but you have to change the headlights, M’am”. Looking up the subconscious meanings and symbolism behind some of these things were very interesting. For one, Dinosaurs represent outdated attitudes and old ways of thinking – and in this case, it was poisonous. And headlamps represent how we look towards the future. So, I was being chased by some poisonous outdated attitudes and ways of thinking that no longer serve me and then [...]

Put on your eyepatches, awesome pirates – adventure awaits!

By | 2017-09-25T11:23:36+00:00 November 19th, 2016|Random musings|

I heard a story once about why olden-day pirates wore an eyepatch. I’d always assumed that it was because they lost an eye during the regular swordfights they probably had, but apparently, it’s not. They wore the eyepatch so that the eye that is hidden behind the patch is accustomed to the dark, giving them a faster reaction time when the time came for them to fight in the near dark of the ship’s hold. That way there was less adjustment time needed as they whipped off the eyepatch since they could in effect see and fight both in the light and in the dark – at a moment’s notice. As modern day pirates, all looking for our own personal Treasure Islands we are actually living in two worlds simultaneously. There is the very real, tangible World of Form around us, but there also exists an intangible, invisible World of Ideas and Energy and Spirit around us all. Following our treasure maps successfully entails being able to switch between these two worlds at a moment’s notice and functioning well in both. Just concentrating on the World of Form often gets us lost, because the best clues to our quest for the [...]
